Orange Icelands

This one is the orange iceland poppies, wonderfully simple in structure but busy with textures, contrasted simply on the blue textured background, my signature circle pattern.  Not elaborate, yet rich and focused in the juxtaposition of textures and colors, with a bit of a change-up of my theme of more intricacy in the flowers on a plain blue background.  I think this one could be seen as the  complimentary image to the series represented by “One More for Spring” from last year.

Here’s a little ode to my new favorite fruit!  I just showed at the Balboa Island Art Walk on Sunday May 16th in Newport Beach, CA.  I had my new apple-green market umbrellas up for shade, and they also served as a landmark, a way for everyone who I’d invited to easily find me.  Then for a happily clever tie-in I had green apples to give away at my display.  What I couldn’t have expected was the kids who came up to me all day with big eyes asking so sweetly if they could have an apple!   It was truly fun to say ‘yes!’ and see the looks on their faces as they picked out the apple they wanted.  Their parents’ expressions were pretty great too.  Later on in the day, a fellow artist-on-display walked by my set up and literally said, “Aha!”, that he’d seen people eating green apples the whole length of the show and now he knew why.

I’m just about ready!  I’ve spent this week getting ready for the Balboa Island Art Walk this Sunday, May 16th.  I’ll be showing a lot of new work that you haven’t seen here on my blog, as well as pieces from my Piccolo Paintings series that typically are posted here.

You can find my display on the South Bayfront Promenade between Coral and Apolena Streets, at the same location I’ve been at in years past.  Just look for my apple-green umbrellas!  The Art Walk is goes from 9 am until 5 pm.
